Local SEO Services That Put You in the Map Pack

They searched “plumber near me.” Three businesses showed up. You weren’t one of them. That empty slot is the Search Gap, and it’s where local SEO starts.

Search Lift’s local SEO services put small businesses in front of nearby customers across the map pack, city searches and AI answers, then make sure the visit turns into a call. Get found first. Get chosen next.

The Search Gap: “near me” and “[service] in [city]” demand you’re not catching

Local customers don’t browse. They search with intent: “emergency plumber near me”, “dentist in [city]”. Each search has a short list of winners: three map-pack spots, a few organic results, and more often an AI answer naming a few businesses. If you’re not on that list, the demand still exists. It just goes to whoever is.

The gap is rarely total invisibility. Often a business shows up for its own name, then vanishes on the searches that drive calls. Closing that gap is the job.

What our local SEO covers (GBP, service-area pages, citations/NAP, reviews, local links, local schema)

  • Google Business Profile. Categories, services, service areas, hours, photos and a description that follows Google’s guidelines. See our Google Business Profile optimization service.
  • Service-area pages. A genuinely useful page for each city or area you serve, with local specifics, not one template with the city name swapped.
  • Citations and NAP. Your name, address (or service area) and phone number, consistent across your site, your profile and the directories customers and AI tools read.
  • Reviews. A simple, rules-compliant way to ask happy customers for reviews, and replies that show you’re paying attention.
  • Local links. Local press, associations, suppliers and community sites that give Google real-world evidence you exist. This is part of local link building in Compound.
  • Local schema. Structured data that states who you are, what you do and where, so machines don’t have to guess.

Weak service pages get on-page SEO.

Local SEO for Google, Maps and AI answers (one job, three surfaces)

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance comes from complete, accurate business information. Distance you can’t change. Prominence is how well-known you are, and Google says that includes how many websites link to you and how many reviews you have.

AI answers lean on the same foundations. Google’s May 2026 guide to generative AI features says optimizing for them is “still SEO”, and that a Business Profile can help your services show up in AI responses as well as regular results. ChatGPT’s search uses its own crawler, so your site has to let it in. So we don’t run three projects. We fix one set of facts, pages and signals, then check all three surfaces. The AI side in depth: AI search optimization.

How it works: Discover → Diagnose → Lift → Compound

  1. Discover. Map what customers search for in your area against where you appear today: Google, Maps, AI answers and your site.
  2. Diagnose. Prioritize the leaks: technical, local, content, AI and conversion. Highest-impact first.
  3. Lift. Ship the changes that move visibility and performance.
  4. Compound. Keep building as Google, Maps and AI search shift.

Every change maps back to a search you’re missing.

Who it’s for (plumbers, HVAC, dentists, law firms, roofers, home services)

Local operators fighting for Maps and local pack slots: plumbers, HVAC companies, dentists, law firms, roofers and home service businesses. If competitors fill the results when customers search for what you sell, this is built for you.

Selling nationally online, with no service area? That’s a different job.

How long local SEO takes, and what we report monthly

Honestly, it depends on your starting point and how crowded your market is. Nobody can promise a date. Google says profile edits can take up to 3 days to appear, and rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to show in results. Competitive rankings take longer, because prominence (reviews, links, reputation) builds over months, not days.

What you can count on is visible work. The Fix Sprint runs 2–3 weeks. On Visibility Lift you get a monthly gap report showing what shipped and where you stand.

FAQs

How much does local SEO cost?
With Search Lift, you can start with a $297 Search Gap Audit, move to a $797 Fix Sprint, or choose Visibility Lift at $1,497/month for ongoing work. Compound, at $2,997/month, adds link building, AI search visibility work and CRO. For how that compares with the wider market, see our guide to local SEO costs.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Profile fixes can show within days; Google says edits can take up to 3 days to appear. Competitive rankings take sustained work over months. Anyone guaranteeing a timeline or position is guessing.
Is local SEO worth it for a small business?
If customers search for your service in your area, it usually is, because you’re competing for demand that already exists instead of creating it. The way to know is to look. The free Search Gap check shows which searches you’re missing and who’s taking them. If the gap is small, we’ll say so.
What’s the difference between local SEO and regular SEO?
Regular SEO competes for searches anywhere. Local SEO competes for searches with local intent, where Google shows a map pack and weighs distance, your Business Profile, reviews and citations. Most local businesses need both.
Do I need a physical address to rank locally?
No. Google lets service-area businesses, like plumbers and cleaners who visit customers, have a Business Profile without showing an address. You list up to 20 service areas instead, and Google says the overall area shouldn’t be more than about 2 hours’ drive from where you’re based. What you can’t do is use a virtual office or a remote mailbox; Google’s guidelines say those aren’t eligible.
Does local SEO help me show up in ChatGPT and AI Overviews?
It’s the foundation. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode are rooted in its core ranking systems. OpenAI says sites that block its OAI-SearchBot crawler won’t be shown in ChatGPT search answers. Local SEO gets the basics right; our AI search optimization goes further.
